Six of us met at the north east Lowe’s lot at 1300 S. & 3rd.W : Jonathan & Annelise Wright in their Spitfire, Jon Mac Lean in his new Solstice coupe, Rob Green in his MINI (Monster), Joe Ford in his MGB and Paul in his SUV. Heading west towards Tooele and Grantsville the city falls away fast and you’re in the farmlands. The weather was a perfect springtime day of sun and cloudless sky. Once at the high school site of the show there were just a smattering of cars but that was to change. So we go out on the poker run and found the organizers had quite the sense of humor at the different stops. Ever try to drop a Volkswagen push rod into a pop bottle at chest height? You get the idea.
We get to Miller Motor Sports Park and what a vast facility that is. The museum is a tribute to Ford racing with the real deal Cobra’s, GT’s and GT-40’s some probably with the dust of Le Mans in the wheel wells. This is Hollowed Ground indeed.
Once back at the high school the scene has totally changed; the joint is packed and cars are still arriving. Cruising music is pumping and there’s a trailer serving burgers, Greek gyros and other treats. We scoot in and meet John Progress in his Austin Healey 3000, Kevin Cowan in his Healey racer, Larry Farrington in his TR-6, a pretty TR-250 with a Surry Top the owner’s name I didn’t get, Rondo Rollins, and Werner & Jou Jou Prochaska. BMCU was well represented and I look forward to making this our future “Dust Off” run. It’s close and loads of fun. Everybody loved our cars. One gentleman passing John’s 3000 put a thumb up and said “Best in Show”. And that’s just one of our beautiful one of a kind British hand made rolling joys.
Thanks to Jonathan Wright for publishing this event.
