Sunday, October 23 is the Hilton Garden Inn Brunch. This is a BMCU Club event although maybe/maybe not a driving event. The extended forecast says that the weather should be 66 degrees and sunny so you may want to take this opportunity for one last jaunt in the LBC. The address is:
762 West Heritage Park Blvd
Layton, Utah 84041
801-416-8899
This is just a couple blocks north of the Layton Hills Mall and I included directions below. We will be meeting at the Great American Grill in the main Lobby at 10:00 am. As with last year the price is still $9.95 per person and you can do the Buffet, order from the menu or do both! What a deal!
After breakfast, if the weather looks good, we’ll talk about a drive. Maybe Antelope Island or maybe Pineview?
- GGDuff and Chris
- Take exit #332.
- Turn right onto Hill Field Rd.
- Turn left onto Heritage Blvd.
The Hotel is on the northwest corner of the intersection Heritage Park Blvd and 700 West.

The weather report wasn’t looking all that great as Sunday approached, but we decided to press on regardless and the fall color tour up Wolf Creek pass was on! A surprisingly punctual group met up at the Hogle Zoo parking lot on what looked to be a lovely day despite the forecast. We all gathered round for tour directions (well, almost all of us were listing to the directions
) and we headed up Emigration Canyon for the first really nice stretch of driving.
Most everyone took the direct route to the Sinclair station at Silver Summit — except a few who followed a certain yellow TR6 for a slightly more circuitous route. We were met at the rest stop by Roger and Jill Davis and we once again got our directions together and headed on out on US40 towards Heber. The colors by the lake gave us a nice show, though the light at the junction with River Road/UT32 split up the group a bit. Luckily Paul and I had actually tested the walkie-talkies and were able to keep the group together as we proceeded up towards the summit.

My, the summer was short this year! It’s already getting to be time for our fall color tour. This year we’ll be going up over Wolf Creek pass. The trees are already turning up here, so it should be a magnificent drive.
Please note that this is one of our few Sunday drives, to give some of our members who work on Saturday a chance to join in. We are keeping October 9 for a rain date just in case. Keep an eye on the website and the BMCU email list for confirmation.
We’ll meet at Hogle Zoo (end of the parking lot nearest the mouth of Emigration Canyon) at 9:00 am for a 9:30 departure through Emigration Canyon, proceeding East on I-80 we will have a secondary rendezvous at Silver Creek Junction exit 146 (after you exit go left over I-80) at a Sinclair Gas station around 10:00, leaving at 10:30.

The Air Force Base employs over 12 thousand people from the surrounding areas and hosts an annual “Food for Life” drive, open Car Show and Chili Cook Off at this time of year with accessible open aircraft both in the front display area and in the museum which is one of the best in the country. This year we had a little quirk, a monsoon downpour in the early morning hours that cleared around 0900 but deterred a few though there was a good showing of local hardware none the less as the pictures will attest.
